Jess's Blog: My Journal

My Journal

I began writing in my journal this week, and I am already seeing a difference in the way I look at different aspects of my life.  Everytime I find something that seems to grab my attention, I find myself being pulled in, and wanting to be a part of it myself.

Although I have decided not to post my Journal publicly on my blog, I do wish to comment on a topic I included in it this week. Whilst I was watching a dance based film (focusing on the styles of ballroom and Cuban movement), I became extremily interested in the visual aspect of the film.  The way in which the movements and choreography were made into "art on camera", due to aspects such as the costume, camera angles, etc.  It made me look into the film in more detail, not just by watching and observing the dance (which is what my normal reaction would be to a dance film), but instead I found myself wanting to be behind the camera, discussing what makes a good shot, and what contributes to showing choreography off to its full potential.

I hope this is something I will use in the developement of my own work and choreography. By looking at the picture in more depth, I hope that the inside details that I discover, I can use to build something over time that I can feel proud of, not just settle with.

Feedback on the "Professional Communications Technology Reader"

After reading this over several times, I found there were certain quotes and sentences that seemed to jump out at me, and I found myself wanting to elaborate on them more.
The "meme" of web 2.0 (diagram), had one bubble in particular that said "Trust your users". This has encouraged me to want to interact more as it will only improve my blog and help me to develop it into somethng I can feel proud of.

In the section "Architectures of Participation", I was drawn to the sentence "The democratisation of the web is an important concept in that Web 2.0 encourages its user to take control of the production and assess other people".  After reading this, the idea of controlling something and having your own say means you have more power, and by the creator making their web page a Web 2.0 format, therefore means the user will feel that their opinions are valued and taken into account by the creator.  The users contribution towards the subject in question are only adding to the further creation of topic.
A quote I found representing this is from "Bruns" in 2007, "In fact there isn't a step by step transition from reading and consuming materials to making and sharing them online, more that each of us as we participate are both producer and consumer."

Another part of the reader that I felt I needed to elaborate on was in the section "Harnessing collective intelligence".  I would like to use a quote from Feenberg and Bakardjieva during their 2004 study into the effectiveness of Web 2.0.  "Social space for people, strangers and almost strangers with diverse backgrounds to come together as equals, as generators of ideas to deliberate and act collectively."

In this quote I would like to emphasise the word "equal", as theoretically ,the more diverse and varied the users are who participate, the wider the variety of feedback the creator will recieve in order to develop their web page, blog, etc.

I would be very grateful to recieve any opinions you may have on my thoughts, and to discuss any of these thoughts in more detail.
Thankyou.

Professional Profile

My name is Jessica Hunt and I am Professional performer, recently graduated from the Hammond School in Chester with a Level 6 National Diploma in Musical Theatre.
I was born on the 8th of June in 1990 in my hometown Chester.  Before I began my training at the Hammond I studied my AS Levels in Theatre Studies and Peforming Arts.

I have studied dance from the age of 4 which includes Jazz, Tap, Ballet and Modern, and later went on to study Contemporary, Street Dance and Irish.  It was around the age of 15 that I became more focused on my Singing and Acting, which is when I began with extra lessons and entering oganisations and companies to develop these skills.

I started off as a dancer but by the time I began my professional training I had become a Singer/ Dancer/ Actress.

My first paid role was working as a member of the Ensemble in "The Wizard of Oz" at the Lowry Theatre in Manchester from November 2008- January 2009.  This was a great experience as Ensemble members were given the chance to audition to be an Understudy for oneof the main roles.  I then became the Understudy for "The Wicked Witch" which was played by Lorna Luft, so having the chance to shadow and work with such a well known actress was a such a privilege.

I have aso performed in other productions such as "Fame" playing the role of Serena at the Liverpool Empire, "When Midnight Strikes" as the role of Twyla with a touring company Taudevin, "Vampires" as a Lead Vocalist with the touring company Taudevin, "Bugsy Malone" as the role of Tallulah at the Liverpool Empire, "Witches of Eastwick" as the role of Jane at the Hammond Theatre and "Parade" as the role of Monteen at the Hammond Theatre.

Although my passion has always been to perform I also have a strong bckground in Teaching.  I have taught at many different schools, companies and theatre associations teaching children from age 3-16.  At the present moment I am the Musical Theatre Teacher at "North West Dance Studios" in Chester, and I am running a National BTEC Course in Dance at Upton High School.  Teaching is a major part of my life and I wish to develop my skills more in this area, which is why this course is ideal as I will gain a qualification that means I can progress more in this field.

Over the past 4 years I have taken part in many workshops from which I have gained more knowlegde of the performing world and the prospects that lie within it.  Such Workshops include working with the Broadway cast of "Lion King" and "Chicago", the West End cast of "Hairspray", the Touring Company of "Cats", esteemed Choreographer "Ken Oldfields" and a member of the cast of "Mary Poppins".

In my early years of training  took part in some Modelling work for "Chesters Young Designer of the Year" which had events that took place at "Cruise Nightclub" in Chester and a Charity Event at St Davids Park Hotel.

My references include my most recent Vocal Teacher Karen McKay (07736299239) and the Head of Dance at the Hammond Sarah Durrant (01244305353).

I am an extremily hard working professional. I put 100% into all I do, I am a strong leader but also an enthusiastic team player and love working as a company.  Aslong as I am doing something that I love for a living, that will mean the world to me.

Getting to Work

Hi, as you can see I have finally sorted out my blog.

I noticed after looking at a few blogs that there are some people in a similar situation as me.

In the sense that in my last few months of training I had a ligament injury and ended up with a plaster cast on my leg and on crutches.  Since the cast came off it has been a very slow and painful process to get back into walking let alone dancing, which is why it has been difficult to get around places, so this course is ideal why I'm still re-gaining my strength and dance technique. Nice to know I'm not the only one in this situation, x
