My Journal

I began writing in my journal this week, and I am already seeing a difference in the way I look at different aspects of my life.  Everytime I find something that seems to grab my attention, I find myself being pulled in, and wanting to be a part of it myself.

Although I have decided not to post my Journal publicly on my blog, I do wish to comment on a topic I included in it this week. Whilst I was watching a dance based film (focusing on the styles of ballroom and Cuban movement), I became extremily interested in the visual aspect of the film.  The way in which the movements and choreography were made into "art on camera", due to aspects such as the costume, camera angles, etc.  It made me look into the film in more detail, not just by watching and observing the dance (which is what my normal reaction would be to a dance film), but instead I found myself wanting to be behind the camera, discussing what makes a good shot, and what contributes to showing choreography off to its full potential.

I hope this is something I will use in the developement of my own work and choreography. By looking at the picture in more depth, I hope that the inside details that I discover, I can use to build something over time that I can feel proud of, not just settle with.

  1. We ran unto this subject a bit on Induction day. I have seen some books about 'the photographing of dance' at the Trent Park library. There is a great tradition there- and before that perhaps in painting? Degas of course spring to mind... not as much with choreography as much as movement. Interesting subject to look into with your work.

  2. Thankyou for your comment Paula, yes this is a subject which I have realised I express a lot of opinions and ideas on. I think I may use it in Task 2d Inquiry. Thankyou for the tip on painting, I'll look into that.
